Line of Business Job Description:
The Environmental Accounting and Reporting team is part of the Corporate Sustainability Controller group within Global Financial Control in CFO. The primary focus of the team is to interpret and implement mandatory and voluntary environmental accounting and reporting requirements at the enterprise and legal entity levels which includes metrics and key performance indicators to be used in measuring environmental risks and performance. Another key focus is to define data requirements for reporting and to prepare business requirements documentation related to technology solutions to support environmental accounting and reporting.
The Carbon Controller II will be responsible for supporting the delivery of carbon reporting, covering all greenhouse gas emission scopes as per the GHG Protocol, as well as partnering closely with climate data operations and other key stakeholders. This role ensures appropriate control procedures are applied to support the material accuracy of reporting and will present internal carbon performance reporting to enterprise leadership. Other deliverables include the preparation of portfolio and client level financed emissions metrics and performance reporting, and the provision of materially accurate carbon information for inclusion in enterprise and legal entity level external reports.
Responsibilities
- Help intake (read, gap assess) new mandatory and voluntary carbon accounting and reporting requirements at the enterprise and legal entity level, covering Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), and other regulatory mandated carbon calculations/reporting requirements
- Help interpret mandatory and voluntary carbon accounting and reporting requirements at the enterprise and legal entity level, including the GHG Protocol, PCAF, etc.
- Help develop and implement approved carbon accounting methodologies based on relevant guidance
- Define data requirements related to mandatory and voluntary carbon accounting and reporting requirements
- Prepare business requirements documents (BRD) related to technology solutions to support carbon accounting and reporting
- Develop BRD for any models needed to support carbon accounting and reporting
- Partner closely with environmental data solutions team, with focus on data collection, client data, public domain reference data, relevant data controls, and data quality reporting
- Ensure appropriate control procedures are applied to support the material accuracy of carbon reporting
- Help establish appropriate processes to oversee/monitor the carbon accounting and reporting control environment, including regular reporting
- Understand climate scenario emissions trajectories and their effects on our financed emissions
- Help provide high quality portfolio and client level financed emissions estimates for downstream consumption (LOBs, Risk and other functions)
- Provide materially accurate carbon information for inclusion in enterprise and legal entity level external reports
- Prepare carbon information required to support regulatory and voluntary external reporting at the enterprise and legal entity levels
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of financial controlling experience
- Strategic thinker with ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
- Collaborative individual who proactively builds trusted relationships, establishes credibility and influences internal and external key stakeholders in a heavily matrixed environment
- Ability to quickly gain understanding for critical deliverables and mobilize resources to deliver results
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or Masters in Accounting, CPA
- Controllership experience at a large company with public accounting experience
