Summary
- Under general supervision, is responsible for identifying, interviewing and processing individuals in the Bexar County Adult Detention Center eligible for legal counsel, financial review and/or release on Personal Recognizance (PR) Bond; submits bond applications and substantiating information to County and District Courts for approval/denial; instructs inmates on bond requirements; coordinates the release of inmates approved for PR Bond; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Compiles interview list from daily bookings of inmates eligible to apply for release on Personal Recognizance (PR) Bond, inmates requiring legal counsel, and/or a Financial Data Report(FDR)
- Interviews inmates to obtain all pertinent personal, employment, financial and social data required for various eligibility reports
- Verifies defendant personal and employment information by contacting references provided (friends, family, employers, social workers and relevant internal and external agencies)
- Conducts background investigation on applicants utilizing computer to access Federal, State and local criminal information databases
- Submits bond interviews and supporting information to appropriate judge or magistrate for review and provides affidavits for appointment of counsel and FDR affidavits to their respective court
- Provides criminal courts with additional information or clarification and follows through as necessary
- Compiles inmate release list data of applicants approved by the court and distributes to Intake Shift Supervisors and jail staff
- Instructs defendants approved for PR bond regarding release, reporting and supervision requirements
- Completes and notarizes all contractual documents related to PR Bond release
- Assists in collection and reporting of bond fees applicable from individuals released on personal bond
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or a closely related field, and one (1) year criminal justice system experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of criminal justice system; knowledge of the Criminal Justice Information System, National Criminal Information Center and Texas Criminal Information Center databases
- Skill in interpreting regulatory legislation regarding detention and release guidelines; skill to perform basic mathematical calculations
- Ability to communicate effectively with hostile, abusive or irrational individuals; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, outside organizations, attorneys, court officials, law enforcement agencies and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- Preferred bilingual in English and Spanish
- Must obtain National Criminal Information Center, Texas Criminal Information Center certification within one (1) year of employment
- Must obtain a Notary Public certification within one (1) year of employment
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Must have motor vehicle liability insurance, personal injury insurance and a personal vehicle
- Required to work shifts
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are primarily indoors
- Required to work in jail environment with frequent exposure to hostile people and infectious diseases
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-15 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
