Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for providing research and administrative assistance to division attorneys; drafts legal documents and correspondence; files case documents in a timely manner; maintains reporting statistics; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Responsible for retrieving, compiling, and organizing all discovery from law enforcement agencies
- Prepares cases for docket to include issuing subpoenas, obtaining restitution amounts, compiling petitions and reports and collecting other case information
- Assists attorneys with current case law research and case preparation
- Requests investigative searches for prior convictions, vehicle registration, bankruptcies and current addresses
- Drafts legal documents and other correspondence such as probable cause paragraphs for at-large/re-filed cases and synopsis for Grand Jury presentations
- Maintains division statistics involving caseload information
- Maintains calendar for case settings and hearings and notifies law enforcement personnel of trial dates
- Provides case status information to judges, law enforcement agencies, victims, bail bondsmen and opposing attorneys
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Legal Assistance, and two (2) years legal experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of legal terminology involved in civil and criminal procedures; knowledge of civil and criminal justice process
- Skill in completing legal research
- Ability to organize legal information; ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing; ability to effectively communicate with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, judges, law enforcement officers, attorneys and the general public
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office
- Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Working conditions are primarily indoors
- Required to work in difficult and stressful situations
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-20 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
