Summary

Under direct supervision, is responsible for processing mental health case files; conducts intake interviews; prepares official documents; arranges client transportation; collects processing fees; and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs data entry of mental health case information
  • Acts in the name of the County Clerk and shall perform all official acts as may be lawfully done and performed by such Clerk in person, pursuant to Section 82.005(c) of the Texas Local Government Code
  • Conducts intake interviews to obtain personal/medical histories from citizens, homeless or indigent clients who may be non-communicative, hostile or irrational and contacts relatives to gather or confirm information
  • Maintains mental health files
  • Prepares court orders and warrants for mental health evaluations
  • Arranges client transportation by Sheriff's Deputies to treatment facilities and hearings
  • Calculates and collects processing fees
  • May assist physicians, health care providers and the general public in completing documents and forms
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and two (2) years general office experience; or a combination of education and experience
  • Ability to understand and apply State Mental Health Code; ability to obtain information from hostile, abusive or irrational individuals; ability to enter data accurately; ability to maintain color coded, alphabetic and numeric filing systems; ability to make change in monetary transactions; ability to operate personal computer, typewriter, lektriver, duress alarm and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, service providers and the general public
  • Knowledge of general office operations
  • Skill to type 30 words per minute with no more than 7 errors; Requires recent typing test administered prior to hire (Typing tests may be administered by Department, Human Resources or Workforce Solutions Alamo Career Centers)
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
  • Must secure and maintain Bexar County Information System and Cashiering System certifications within six (6) weeks of employment
  • May be required to work at any time during the day or night in order to process cases for an emergency evaluation or commitment
  • Required to be on call 24 hours a day on weekends
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Constantly working in indoor conditions
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10-20 pounds
  • Occasionally moves about the office
  • Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Positions self to perform essential functions
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
