Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for supervising Security Monitors; oversees video visitation operations; reviews inmates visitation schedules; acts as a liaison between correctional staff and upper management; maintains customer service oriented environment providing assistance, guidance, information on all aspects of the ADC; conducts training; prepares statistical data; and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervises and directs Security Monitors assigned to the Video Visitation Center; to include employee counseling and disciplinary actions
  • Schedules Security Monitors to ensure adequate staffing for Video Visitation Center
  • Reviews daily inmate visitation schedules or accuracy, and for court order restrictions (i.e., restraining orders) addresses and resolves conflict situations
  • Alerts appropriate authority when intervention by uniformed staff is necessary
  • Conducts training in inmate video visitation operation procedures
  • Assists Security Monitors in screening public scheduled for inmate visitations
  • Enforces Video Visitation policies and procedures, maintains control of Video Visitation Center; resolves problems relating to customer support
  • Prepares weekly staff attendance, maintains statistical data for reports and budget preparation
  • Performs related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and five (5) years' experience in customer service including two (2) years' lead or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Good knowledge of security practices and procedures; knowledge of security equipment and monitoring techniques human services field; good knowledge of public service agencies and assistance programs
  • Skill in supervising employees; skill in problem resolution; skill in utilizing tact and diplomacy when dealing with diverse groups of individuals
  • Ability to adjust rapidly to fluctuating situations; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, County employees, outside agencies, vendors and the general public
  • Preferred bilingual in English/Spanish
  • Must obtain valid TCIC/NCIC Certification within one (1) year of employment
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office
  • Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical and drug screen
  • Must be able to alternate shifts, weekends and holidays
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
  • Working conditions are primarily indoors and with constant exposure to the general public and occasionally exposure to potentially hostile people
  • Physical requirements include lifting/carrying of 5 lbs. occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to handling, walking, sitting, standing, bending, reaching and twisting to perform the essential functions
