Summary
- Under general direction, supervises overall facility operations and personnel; ensures that all maintenance schedules are implemented for the preventive vehicle maintenance activities; provides assistance and overall guidance to personnel in the provision of automotive maintenance services, and in difficult automotive repairs; coordinates vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance schedules with all County departments and offices; and performs related duties as required.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Supervises skilled and semi-skilled mechanics
- Oversees the daily operations of the Fleet Maintenance facility; responsible for assigning work orders and reviewing progress on daily, weekly and monthly basis
- Monitors and assesses production rate, equipment utilization and material resource management
- Reviews and analyzes vehicle documentation for accuracy and completeness
- Outlines detailed procedures for complicated repairs
- Schedules all County vehicles for preventive maintenance work
- Coordinates with other departments for vehicle maintenance
- Schedules vehicles with breakdowns and minor repairs
- Coordinates repairs and services with outside vendors
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications

- Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and six years’ experience as a journeyman automotive mechanic including two (2) years lead or supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of computerized fleet maintenance management program and other diversified electronic equipment; knowledge of automotive shop operations; knowledge of all types of shop tools, equipment and their proper use; knowledge of parts, special equipment, and tools; knowledge of manufacturer's warranty and service procedures; and knowledge of time limits for minor repairs; knowledge of safety standards and practices
- Skill in using shop equipment, special tools, analyzers and testers; skill in performing diagnostic work; skill in operating different vehicles; skill in managing employees; and skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to accurately read and interpret vehicle documents; ability to prioritize work on vehicles; ability to perform troubleshooting and implement repairs; ability to determine severity of vehicle breakdowns; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, department heads, outside service agencies/vendors, and the public
- Must have a valid Texas driver's license
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Environment and Physical Demands:- Working conditions are primarily indoors in an office environment with exposure to temperature variations
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds
- Occasionally move about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
