Position Overview:

The Senior Tax Officer leads tax compliance, provision, and advisory services within the Wealth Management Division, driving operational excellence and strategic growth. This role builds and develops a high-performing tax team through expert guidance and coaching, while serving as the primary liaison for OneSource, directing external CPA relationships, and managing IRS communications. This position is responsible for ensuring flawless tax system configuration and navigating complex securities transactions including dividends, interest allocations, bond amortizations, IRA processing, and trading processes. The position requires exceptional organizational capabilities, strategic problem-solving, and the ability to excel in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyze fiduciary governing documents to determine tax reporting requirements, responsibilities, and account setup accuracy for trusts, estates, and managed accounts.
  • Oversee account onboarding and maintenance processes, including TIN verification through IRS systems and validation of tax documentation for new and closed accounts.
  • Review, audit, and validate all tax-related transactions, including dividends, interest allocations, bond amortization/accretion, capital gains, corporate actions, and IRA activity, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead and execute all year-end tax reporting processes, including Forms 1099, 1098, 1041-related reporting, IRA reporting, and other applicable filings, ensuring adherence to strict regulatory deadlines.
  • Monitor and manage tax return preparation workflows, tracking status, resolving issues, and communicating progress to internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Process and reconcile estimated and federal tax payments through the Electronic Funds Transfer Processing System (EFTPS), ensuring accurate quarterly reporting and documentation.
  • Serve as primary relationship manager with tax reporting vendors (e.g., OneSource), overseeing system configuration, data integrity, testing, and issue resolution.
  • Maintain and manage relationships with external CPAs and tax advisors, ensuring timely and accurate exchange of information and alignment on reporting requirements.
  • Act as primary liaison with the IRS on behalf of fiduciary accounts, managing inquiries, notices, payment coordination, and resolution of discrepancies or reporting issues.
  • Monitor changes in federal and state tax laws and regulations, assess impacts to fiduciary accounts and reporting processes, and communicate updates administrative team.
  • Provide technical guidance and advisory support to clients, Wealth Advisors, and internal teams regarding tax reporting, account activity, and complex tax scenarios.
  • Oversee daily workflow management within tax reporting systems to ensure accurate processing, statement generation, and distribution of tax documents.
  • Maintain comprehensive tax records, schedules, and tracking mechanisms to support audit readiness, reporting accuracy, and process transparency.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and risk mitigation within tax reporting and operational workflows.
  • Ensure all tax reporting activities comply with IRS regulations, fiduciary standards, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop tax team members, establishing performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and fostering technical expertise.
  • Collaborate with Wealth Management leadership, Operations, Compliance, and Technology teams to support strategic initiatives and system enhancements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Wealth Management Compliance/Tax leadership.
  • This position may require travel within the Bank’s geographic area.


Experience & Education:

  • 5–8 years of Wealth Management tax experience in reporting, trust taxation, fiduciary accounting, or wealth management operations.
  • 5–8 years of securities experience through a trust division, investment firm, or broker-dealer environment.
  • 5–8 years of income tax experience preferred.
  • 3 years of experience with IRS FIRE (Filing Information Returns Electronically).
  • Advanced expertise in complex tax scenarios, including multi-account households, layered trust structures, and high-net-worth client reporting.
  • Experience leading or overseeing tax reporting processes, vendor relationships, and/or tax platform administration.
  • In-depth knowledge of securities taxation, including cost basis reporting, corporate actions, and multi-asset class tax treatment.
  • Experience with the Electronic Funds Transfer Processing System (EFTPS) is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS/BBA) in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Trust and Fiduciary Advisor (CTFA) are preferred.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
  • Ability to independently assess issues, determine root causes, and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience with wealth management and trust accounting systems such as Northern Trust, Fi-Tek, Matrix, Nautilus Imaging, or comparable platforms.

Other Requirements:

  • Familiarity with tax reporting systems and electronic filing processes and documentation.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, pull weights or otherwise move objects weighing as much as 10 lbs. on a regular basis and/or for extended periods of time during the workday.
