Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing professional work reviewing fire sprinkler plans and fire alarm plans for conformance with the International Fire Code. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment with occasional visits to outdoor construction sites. May exercise direct supervision over assigned staff.

- Provides technical assistance to fire sprinkler system designers, fire sprinkler contractors, architects, and engineers regarding City ordinances.
- Reviews fire sprinkler plans for conformance with the International Fire Code.
- Performs site visits to assist field inspectors in acceptance testing of fire sprinkler systems.
- Prepares correspondence and special reports.
- Meets with architects and engineers regarding fire code issues as they relate to their designs.
- Attends preliminary plan review meetings.
- Provides support to Building and Fire Inspectors.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements

- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with preferable coursework in Fire Protection Science, or a related field.
- Four (4) years' experience in fire protection experience.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) Certification as a Fire
Plans Examiner within one (1) year of employment.
Applicant Information
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
- Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff.
