Job Summary
Under direction, is responsible for performing supervisory enforcement work in securing and maintaining compliance with City code regulations pertaining to housing standards, including junk vehicles, vacant lots, junk yards, and zoning violations. May be exposed to work in a dirty environment and in temperature extremes. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

- Plans and assigns the work of Code Compliance Investigators.
- Reviews reports from subordinate Investigators, assists on difficult inspection problems, and assures proper follow-up action is taken.
- Supervises, trains, and evaluates assigned staff members.
- Prescribes forms and techniques to be used in inspections, investigations, and maintenance of records.
- Submits required reports on work objectives and accomplishments.
- Recommends and assists in the development and implementation of department goals and objectives.
- Answers questions and provides information to the public.
- Responds to and handles complaints from the public on code compliance issues.
- Collects and prepares data for reports and presentations.
- Plans, prioritizes, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of inspections staff.
- Reviews and evaluates operations and procedures and recommends improvements.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements

- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- Four (4) years of experience in inspection or enforcement practices.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Must become certified and State licensed as a Code Enforcement Officer within 18 months of hire or as otherwise designated by the Director of Code Compliance.
- Enforcement experience.
- ICC Certifications.

- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Knowledge of inspection requirements, procedures, methods, and techniques.
- Knowledge of City codes, regulations, and ordinances pertaining to code enforcement and public safety.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and procedures.
- Skill in operating a computer, both hand-held and CRT, to access programs for data input and retrieval.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for services in a fair, tactful, and firm manner.
- Ability to inspect and identify violations of applicable codes and ordinances.
- Ability to deal with the public in difficult situations.
- Ability to maintain and update records, logs, and reports.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
- Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. May be exposed to work in a dirty environment and in temperature extremes.
