Under general supervision, is responsible for cleaning and maintaining firefighter protective clothing. Maintains and tracks inventory status in assigned tracking system. Exercises no supervision.

Work Hours
7:30 a.m.- 4:15 p.m., Monday - Friday. Schedules are subject to change at the department's discretion.

• Disassembles and prepares soiled firefighting coats and pants for extractor washing.
• Places firefighting coat and pant pieces along with other soiled personal protective equipment in extractors for cleaning.
• Removes cleaned gear from extractors and place in drying cabinets.
• Assembles cleaned personal protective equipment pieces back together with matching pieces.
• Folds and bags assembled firefighting coat and pants, with identifying paperwork on bag, to be placed in inventory.
• Inspects firefighting gear for damage and prepare for vendor repair.
• Performs advanced inspection on firefighting coats and pants when required and as necessary.
• Tracks, inventories, and orders personal protective equipment.
• Tracks cleaning, repair, and inspection of firefighting gear and identify which have been placed back in inventory in SAFD Quartermaster Inventory Tracking system.
• Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
• One (1) year of experience in personal protective equipment cleaning and handling.
• Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.

• Experience with inventory control.
• Experience with cleaning and maintaining uniforms.
• Experience working in a Fire Department.

Applicant Information

• Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.
