Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for performing skilled work in form setting various types of concrete, and maintenance of drainage inlets, storm drains, and sidewalks. May exercise functional supervision over assigned staff.

Work Schedule
6:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m., Tuesday - Friday; This position will require working inclement weather events.

Essential Job Functions

  • Builds, repairs, and installs form settings for concrete flat work such as sidewalks, driveways, foundations, curbs, retaining walls, elevated sidewalk and wheelchair ramps.
  • Installs and repairs concrete forms; ties various types of steel for concrete structures.
  • Builds forms for concrete projects.
  • Installs box culverts.
  • Installs signage at job sites and traffic control.
  • Repairs various types concrete forms.
  • Prepares concrete forms for minor repairs on sidewalks, curbs, and driveways.
  • Repairs concrete pipes.
  • Installs and repairs concrete infrastructure.
  • May require frequently lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
  • Works from blueprints, drawings, or oral instructions and the necessity to operate carpentry tools and equipment.
  • May supervise semi-skilled employees in form setting carpentry and maintenance of City inlet’s, storm drains, and sidewalks.

Job Requirements

  • Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Three (3) years of experience in carpentry.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience estimating project costs, reading construction plans, blue prints and drawings.
  • Experience laying out forms for concrete projects.
  • Experience leading crews/teams in concrete infrastructure repair.
  • Experience, pouring, forming and tying steel.
  • Experience in concrete pipe repairs, installing box culverts and/or working in drainage channels.

Applicant Information

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of carpentry terminology and materials used in the trade.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Skill in using carpentry tools and equipment.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications.
  • Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
  • Working conditions are inside and outside with frequent exposure to temperature variations, dust, dirt, noise, and toxic fumes and vapors.
