Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and implementing support services at assigned Senior Center, including nutrition education, social activities, recreational activities, meal services, and member assessments. Oversees Senior Center operations and staff in the absence of the Senior Center Manager as needed. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.

Work Location
Position will be assigned to one of the City's twelve (12) Comprehensive Center locations.

Work Hours
7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., Monday - Friday; occasional nights and weekends will be required based on departmental needs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Directs and oversees the delivery and serving of hot meals to site participants based on center allotments.
  • Directs and oversees Senior Center support activities such as nutrition education, outreach services, and wellness programs.
  • Directs and oversees social and recreation activities for center members.
  • Trains and provides technical assistance to Senior Center volunteers and administrative staff.
  • Unloads and sorts food commodities from pallets. Assembles food boxes and packages for distribution to Senior Center members, which requires lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Develops and conducts trainings and presentations on nutrition utilizing evidence based research, practices, and resources.
  • Performs daily safety inspections of Senior Center facilities.
  • Escalates findings to Senior Center Manager as needed.
  • Completes various nutrition, lifestyle, and risk assessments. Provides recommendations for additional services as needed.
  • Directs and supervises all Senior Center personnel in the absence of the Senior Center Manager.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports.
  • May be assigned special projects as needed.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in Nutrition or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of experience in providing educational services in nutritional health.
  • Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • Must obtain First aid and CPR certification within six (6) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual in Spanish (speak, read, and write).

Applicant Information

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of standard program evaluation methods and report writing.
  • Skill in conducting clear and effective presentations.
  • Skill in utilizing computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
  • Ability to utilize data management systems.
  • Ability to conduct evidence-based research.
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports on program activities.
  • Ability to develop and conduct training and presentations on food nutrition.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
  • Ability to interpret and apply program policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and assist in evaluating employees.
  • Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position, with or without accommodations.
