Job Summary

Under general direction, is responsible for performing supervisory work in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment in City-owned airfields and buildings. Exercises direct supervision over assigned staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Supervises Electricians in the installation and maintenance of electrical and air conditioning systems in all City-owned airfields and buildings.
  • Develops work schedules and coordinates work assignments, continuously communicating with electrical supervised staff.
  • Submits requisitions for the necessary electrical supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Plans, schedules, and distributes work order forms for repair of malfunctioned equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with regulations, electrical codes, and airport safety standards while providing direct supervision to a team of electricians and technicians.
  • Provides job safety awareness training for employees necessary to operate electrical tools and equipment.
  • Reviews and applies City and FAA rules and regulations pertaining to the electrical trade.
  • Performs preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and termination of personnel.
  • Assists in installation and maintenance work when necessary.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
  • Four (4) years of experience in electrical work.
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician's License issued by the City of San Antonio or the State of Texas.
  • Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
  • Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment and a Criminal History Records check upon employment.
  • Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master Electrician license.
  • Experience with ALCMS/SMGCS systems.
  • Familiarity with airfield lighting and project coordination.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems and airfield lighting monitoring systems.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
Applicant Information
  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and practices of the electrical and air conditioning trades.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
  • Knowledge of City electrical codes.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, training, and personnel management.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety standards of the electrical trades including working with high risk voltage.
  • Skill in utilizing all testing devices used in the trade.
  • Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical sketches and blueprints.
  • Ability to locate the cause of faulty operation of electrical and air conditioning systems.
  • Ability to apply for electrical permits and requests inspections as needed.
  • Ability to estimate costs, including labor time and materials needed.
  • Ability to compile daily records, including time cards and absentee slips.
  • Ability to train employees on new methods and techniques in the electrical field.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.
  • Working conditions are inside and outside with occasional exposure to temperature variations, damp/wet surfaces, and electrical hazards.
