Job Summary
Under immediate supervision is responsible for the custody and control of property and evidence seized during the course of law enforcement activities including firearms, narcotics, currency and other valuables. Exercises no supervision.

Work Hours
7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday; nights, weekend, and holiday availability may be requested at the department's discretion.Essential Job Functions

- Receives and processes all incoming property including personal property, found or recovered property, and evidence. Processes incoming narcotics and verifies presumptive drug and weight, as required, occasionally lifting and carrying property weighing 25 pounds.
- Safeguards and maintains integrity of property seized including loaded firearms, narcotics, currency, and evidence contaminated with bio-hazard.
- Locates and returns property to appropriate personnel and/or owner.
- Oversees the transport and destruction of all property at the end of its life cycle, including narcotics, as required. May coordinate the transport and receipt of evidence from the County Crime Lab.
- Prepares and maintains a record of ownership of all items received and stored including a description of item(s) and reason for retention.
- Maintains a full record of movement of all property to establish a chain of custody, as required by law.
- Assembles inventory of unclaimed articles for sale at auction.
- Prepares a list of items required by law to be destroyed.
- Executes court orders and expungement orders.
- Performs firearm searches in the National Criminal Investigation Center and Texas Criminal Investigation Center (NCIC/TCIC) databases.
- Files reports and prepares documents for prosecution, as needed.
- Reports to court and testifies regarding the chain of custody, as required by subpoena.
- Assists police officers and other law enforcement personnel, as needed.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements

- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
- One (1) year of record-keeping experience.
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- Valid Texas Criminal Investigation Center and National Criminal Investigation Center (TCIC/NCIC) Certification required within one (1) year of employment.
- Successful completion of an accredited Evidence Technician Training Program within one (1) year of employment.
- Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor convictions, an Open Arrest for any criminal offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and family violence convictions.
- Warehouse/inventory control experience.
- Forklift operation experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Applicant Information
- Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

- Knowledge of and competency using the TCIC/NCIC system.
- Knowledge of the Code of Criminal Procedures, Government Code, and
other pertinent Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances. - Knowledge of Police Department rules, regulations, policies, and
standard operating procedures. - Knowledge of modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Skill in receiving and processing incoming property.
- Skill in conducting inventory on all existing property ensuring its continued safekeeping.
- Skill in retrieving, updating, and maintaining data in various record management systems.
- Skill in utilizing personal computers and associated software applications in the completion of assignments.
- Ability to safeguard and maintain integrity of seized property.
- Ability to consistently report to court and testify in a timely and professional manner, as required by subpoena.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
- Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. May be exposed to working in a dirty environment, in high or low temperatures and subject to handling of narcotics, firearms, currency and bio-hazardous materials including but not limited to bodily fluids and contaminated sharps.
