Job Summary

Under general supervision, is responsible for building, testing, implementing, and supporting IT infrastructure in the cloud and on premise, while executing strategy set by Architects. Assignments are complex and may have system-wide impact on a platform and/or integrate across the enterprise. Infrastructure typically spans the server platforms, storage systems, middleware infrastructure, enterprise resource planning, and client technologies. May exercise technical supervision over assigned staff.

Essential Job Functions

  • Designs the internal and external interface compatibility of platforms and associated subsystems, including Oracle/VMWare hosted virtual environments and Oracle SPARC server infrastructures, ensuring seamless integration, high availability, and secure operations across Unix/Linux systems (Oracle Solaris, RHEL, Ubuntu, etc.).
  • Performs scripting using Bash, Ksh, Perl, Python, or combinations of automation tools to streamline system administration tasks, support virtual environment operations, and automate routine processes such as monitoring, patching, auditing, and configuration management.
  • Develops, implements, and complies with Service Level Agreements and Operational Level Agreements, ensuring system reliability, performance, and adherence to organizational standards across physical and virtual Unix/Linux environments.
  • Documents new or modified infrastructure solutions, rest activities/results, installation procedures, system configurations, error handling processes, upgrade paths, migration steps (hot/cold), snapshots, and operational workflows to maintain accurate and comprehensive technical records.
  • Collaborates with developers and other IT teams to ensure proper system integration, functionality, and operational readiness across virtualized and physical server environments, including Oracle SPARC hardware and Oracle virtualization platforms.
  • May use technology to implement automation and orchestration, including shell scripting, configuration management, and performance tuning tools to optimize virtual environments and streamline system operations.
  • Tracks, monitors, and analyzes key metrics and performance indicators for Unix/Linux systems and virtual environments, tuning systems for optimal performance and proactively identifying and resolving hardware or software issues.
  • Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Four (4) years of work experience in Systems Administration, Networking, DBA, DBMS design and support, and/or PC Support roles.
  • Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A & B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and Family Violence Convictions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of experience administering UNIX/Linux environments (Oracle Solaris, RHEL, Ubuntu) with a focus on system performance, security, and high availability.
  • Broad technical background across operating systems, virtualization, cloud infrastructure, automation, and middleware, with hands-on expertise in Solaris SPARC, x86 hardware, VMware, and Oracle technologies.
  • Strong understanding of networking and infrastructure concepts including VLANs, VPNs, routing, IPv4/IPv6, wired/wireless architectures, load balancing, and disaster recovery.
  • Skilled in server configuration, automation tools, storage systems, filesystems, and troubleshooting complex UNIX/Linux environments.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to evolving priorities.
  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months.
