POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Marketing & Communications serves as the organization’s storyteller, brand steward, and strategic communications leader. This role is responsible for positioning the region as a globally competitive destination for corporate investment, talent, and innovation — while also building trust and engagement with investors, public partners, elected officials, and the community.
This leader owns the organization’s brand, narrative, messaging, and reputation. They drive integrated marketing, public relations, media, digital, content, and executive communications strategies that directly support economic development, corporate recruitment, investor relations, and public policy goals.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Brand, Narrative & Positioning
- Own and evolve the organization’s brand strategy and regional value proposition
- Position the region as a premier destination for corporate headquarters, innovation, and job creation
- Ensure consistent, compelling storytelling across all channels and audiences
- Lead major brand campaigns tied to corporate recruitment, talent attraction, and regional competitiveness Strategic Marketing & Growth Campaigns
- Develop and execute integrated marketing strategies that support:
- Oversee destination marketing and place-branding efforts
- Manage campaign strategy, creative direction, and performance measurement Communications & Public Relations
- Lead all external communications, including media relations, crisis communications, and public relations
- Serve as senior editor for all organizational messaging, ensuring clarity, consistency, and impact
- Build strong relationships with regional, national, and trade media Digital, Content & Thought Leadership
- Own digital strategy across web, social, email, and emerging platforms
- Lead content strategy including reports, white papers, economic impact studies, case studies, and video
- Position the organization and region as thought leaders in economic development, innovation, and
- Lead communications strategy for investor relations and board engagement
- Oversee annual reports, impact reports, and major investor communications
- Support fundraising, sponsorship, and partnership initiatives through compelling storytelling
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing marketing and communications team
- Manage agency partners (PR, creative, digital, media buying)
- Set performance metrics, KPIs, and accountability structures
- Listening - Clearly receiving, interpreting, and understanding messages to translate into action.

Team & Agency Leadership
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience: 10+ years of senior-level marketing, communications, or brand leadership experience
Proven success leading integrated marketing and communications strategies
Experience managing brand, PR, media, digital, and content at scale
Demonstrated ability to translate complex economic, policy, or technical topics into compelling narratives
Experience managing agencies and large-scale campaigns
Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Work Environment:
This is a flexible work environment which includes both in-office attendance and the ability to work from home as business needs allow. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, and multi-functioning printer. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. After hours work/travel may be required.
