We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to work on our Data Solutions Data Governance team as a Senior Data Steward. The ideal candidate has experience creating and managing data governance policies, processes and standards, including data definitions, data quality and usage decisions. The candidate must have a strong background around data. In addition, gathering requirements, collaboration with business and technical teams, analysis, problem solving, and communicating are important skills. What is the work? • Serve as a subject matter expert on data and metrics available within the H-E-B data lake for respective domains to enable business, analytical, and data science use cases. • Implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures, ensuring data is used responsibly and in compliance with regulations. • Promote awareness and educate others on data policies, procedures, standards on metadata, lineage, cataloging, quality, lifecycle, and data modeling. • Create, maintain, and manage metadata. Ensure data assets are defined, catalogued, discoverable, and that source lineage is documented. • Define and maintain data quality requirements and business rules for assigned data attributes. • Assist with the creation of critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), build dashboards that highlight goals and performance around objectives. • Manage rules and requirements for data access controls. Participate in the validation efforts. • Proactively analyze data for the team, department, and/or yourself, investigating, and communicating which areas need improvement driving a better data governance framework. • Collaborate with Security, Compliance, Data Engineering, Data Science, Data Analyst, and Data Infrastructure leaders as key stakeholders/customers, providing insight, recommendations, and solutions that aligns with data governance objectives while maintaining legal and compliance regulations (such as PII, HIPPA, PCI, TDPSA). What is your background? • 5 years of experience in data stewardship, data management, data governance, business intelligence, or a related field. • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and analysis. • Strong experience in data governance principles and practices. • Experience with Data Catalog, Lineage, Metadata, Security and Quality tools. • Ability to gather, analyze, and document business requirements. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement. • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities. • Knowledge of regulatory compliance related to data management. • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery) • Ability to deliver on ambiguous projects with incomplete information. • Ability to act as a thought leader and mentor team members. • Ability / willingness to learn new technologies as they emerge. • Ability to calmly work under pressure.
