Primary Responsibilities

This position will report to the Control Systems & Cyber Security Business Class Director.

The Control Systems & Cyber Security program provides comprehensive control systems and cybersecurity lifecycle services to all HDR business groups The primary function of this role is to drive technical excellence and strategy for design and planning services within the Control Systems and Cyber Services program through collaboration and effective communication.

This position will lead a talented group of individuals to elevate the program through innovation and thought leadership by building a community of practice within this dynamic and constantly evolving, technology centric field.

In the role of Controls Systems Planning & Design Technical Director, we'll count on you to:

  • Build a best-in-class practice – The primary duties would include:
    • Drive a community of practice.
      • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to identify and develop a network of Technical Experts/Subject Matter Experts as needed to support the HDR enterprise-wide program.
      • Develop and implement a mentoring strategy for technical expertise.
      • Develop and implement communication strategies to tie the global community of professionals together for knowledge sharing.
      • Develop and maintain community of knowledge through practice groups.
      • Promote internal mentoring and career development.
    • Development of project delivery tools for technical excellence
      • Implement strategy for development and maintenance of project delivery tools, standards and practices, and workflows.
      • Partner with Digital Delivery teams on digital content and workflows.
      • Drive quality throughout the program, by ensuring quality control reviews are performed, and lead quality initiatives, in support of a strong quality-oriented culture.
      • Ensure project teams are leveraging subject matter experts to optimize project delivery – including providing oversight and leading teams of experts on complex and challenging projects.
    • Thought leadership and Elevating Technical Profile
      • Foster culture of innovation and advance innovation within the practice.
      • Provide critical/strategic pursuit and interview support and/or identify other qualified staff to provide support.
      • Recruit and retain the best talent.
        • Be known by our clients and competition as the best in market by presenting at conferences, publishing technical articles, volunteering in leadership opportunities within technical societies and organizations.
    • Drive a Service Organization
      • Partner with HDR’s internal business group stakeholders to drive successful project implementation by collaborating and communicating effectively.
      • Support internal area section managers with forecasting and tracking commitments.
      • Support project pursuits including development of staffing assignments, qualifications, project approach and interview in collaboration with BG stakeholders.
      • Support project teams through principal in-charge and quality review activities.
      • Continuously improve Control System Design and Planning Services into HDR Quality Management System
      • Collaborative with Automation and Cyber Security Directors as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer or Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in related field
  • Registered Professional Engineer (North America) or Chartered Engineer (EMEA/APAC)
  • Significant cross-sector control systems lifecycle experience including master planning, assessments & design.
  • Significant design experience related to large, multi-discipline, complex buildings, industrial facilities and continuous process plants.
  • History of exceptional leadership performance and performance on project delivery
  • Recognized technical expert within the local, national, global industry.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Typical starting pay range for this position is $150,000 - $220,000 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
