Summary of Position
Project Controls has identified the need to establish a Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) Lead position to support the enterprise and our clients. The successful candidate will provide leadership to strengthen and elevate the personnel and processes that allow HDR to more effectively implement PMIS and dashboarding systems both externally (client facing) and internally (internal team facing). The position is a full-time role with a 30% utilization goal. The position will report to the Project Controls Director and coordinate closely with the enterprise-wide Program Manager Director, Business Group Program Management Directors and Applied Technology Office. This position will involve training of professionals, template development and development of effective strategies for PMIS implementation.
Position Description Overview
The Project Management Information Systems (PMIS) Lead will drive a strategic vision and tactical implementation of PMIS across the enterprise with a primary focus on the program management practice. The objective is to leverage PMIS technology to optimize project execution, improve efficiency, and foster innovation. This will be accomplished by uniting a cohesive PMIS strategy for project and program delivery through initiatives focused on data strategy, governance, automation, and analytics. The goal is to provide teams with solutions that seamlessly monitor program progress, perform earned value management, document management and progress visualizations and reporting using PMIS platforms. This position will have a pivotal role where project controls crosses over with digital delivery, data strategy and governance.
In the role we’ll count on you to provide regular coordination across the enterprise with project controls personnel, program managers, program management directors, project staff, the Applied Technology Office (ATO) and Business Group Professional Services Directors to drive the following:
- Implementation and continuous improvement of standard framework for identifying client PMIS needs and coordination with HDR staff for implementation of PMIS systems.
- Coordination with the project controls team to implement relevant PMIS systems for our internal and external clients.
- Develop materials suitable to be used in proposals to showcase HDR PMIS capability to support business development activities.
- Coordinate with Product Owners to develop baseline PMIS templates and modules for quick and consistent implementation.
- Lead the team in developing and implementing standardized approaches and recommended practices for increased efficiency of PMIS technology related workflows and quality of delivery.
- Leadership and vision for continuing PMIS service growth across the enterprise.
- Elevate the state of the practice through thought leadership activities such as industry related awards, publishing articles, speaking engagements, leadership opportunities within societies and technical organizations.
- Collaborate with PMIS vendors and HDR IT Asset Management to develop enterprise agreements to outline cost structure, onboarding/training requirements, and ongoing maintenance.
- Review industry trends for PMIS tools and elevate new or enhanced technologies for inclusion in the PMIS technology program.
- Serve as the PMIS point of contact for pursuits to identify the proposed solution, develop marketing material, and differentiate HDR’s technology approach.
- Develop and implement communication strategies and plan to engage and tie the Project Controls community of technology professionals together for connection, networking, idea and knowledge sharing.
- Partner with key stakeholders to identify and develop a network of Technical Experts/Subject Matter Experts as needed to support projects throughout the HDR enterprise.
- Coordination with other teams as needed to ensure proper implementation of these systems that comply with our Quality Management System and other internal and external data requirements.
- Support of continued growth of the program management practice at HDR.
- Travel up to 50%
- Degree in computer science, information technology, information science, systems administration, construction management, engineering, or related fields.
- A minimum of 7 years' experience in related field with experience implementing PMIS for engineering and construction projects, Project Management Office, etc
- Demonstrated ability to formulate and execute applied technology strategies, implementation plans, and foster lasting change within an organization.
- Familiarity with planning forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports and the use of PMIS/dashboarding systems to implement the same.
- In depth knowledge of low/no-code software systems used as PMIS platforms.
- Experience implementing PMIS and dashboarding solutions for clients on large project or programs successfully.
- Demonstrated understanding of the implementation requirements of a broad range of PMIS technologies and their applied delivery within the architectural-engineering sector.
- Experience in data architecture, data management and well-versed in industry standards
- Experience evaluating technology, software development and deployment
- Experience implementing Autodesk Construction Cloud, QuickBase, Microsoft Power Platform, Aurigo, Asite, and Kahua is preferred
- Database experience including use of SQL and other database software.
- Familiarity with various data security requirements for agencies, clients, and other client entities.
- Travel up to 50% required
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of 10 years' experience in project controls work on engineering and construction projects, including planning, estimating, forecasting, scheduling, cost control, schedule control, and project reports
- Ability to manage proposal preparation, contract review and negotiation, client relationship and win strategy for medium to large EPC Projects
- Strong decision-making skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple long- and short-term tasks simultaneously
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong oral and written communication skills
