What a Typical Day Could Look Like
As the Development Accounting Manager, you will get to lead financial operations for exciting development projects! We’re looking for a detail-oriented, proactive professional with strong accounting expertise to manage complex financial functions, ensure accurate records, and provide strategic financial insights. You are the Financial Leader!
- You drive financial success! You will monitor project budgets, expenses, and overall financial performance against established benchmarks, providing proactive insights and recommendations to optimize profitability and financial health.
- Own the organization and security of critical development records, from contracts to change orders, ensuring everything is perfectly in place and accessible for seamless project execution.
You are the Strategic Project Partner!
- Analyze project costs, identify trends, and deliver key recommendations to drive cost control, process improvements, and financial success.
- Prepare and present detailed monthly project reports, offering expert insights into project performance and profitability.
- You will assist in funding efforts, ensuring compliance, optimizing funding utilization, and developing effective strategies for financial success.

- You’ll get to serve as the primary point of contact for clients, lenders, and development partners, managing relationships and resolving financial issues.

Key Skills and Abilities Needed to Succeed in This Role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- Progressive accounting/financial experience in construction/real estate development, including large-scale complex projects, and management/supervisory experience.
- Experience with real estate accounting software such as RealPage (preferred), Yardi, or MRI, with the ability to learn and adapt to new systems.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, including project/cost accounting, financial analysis/modeling, and GAAP, with expertise in advanced techniques.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial information clearly and concisely to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel) for creating and maintaining complex spreadsheets, performing advanced calculations, generating reports, conducting financial modeling, and leveraging technology to optimize processes.
- Proactive, independent, and collaborative; skilled in leading teams, managing projects, delegating tasks, and driving successful outcomes.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; able to present complex financial information clearly, negotiate effectively, and build strong relationships.
