Overview

The Vice President, Construction Management will lead a statewide construction management team while also providing Owner’s Representative and construction inspection services for major public and private water/wastewater infrastructure, land development, and special purpose districts such as Municipal Utility Districts (MUD) and Water Control & Improvement Districts (WCID). Additionally, this position is responsible for managing, mentoring, and recruiting field and office staff. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills with team members, public and private clients, external design firms, and contractors. This position will also be actively involved in professional associations and community organizations as Pape-Dawson continues building partnerships within the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the most respected statewide water/wastewater infrastructure construction management program.
  • Assess and execute profitable projects and programs within our field of expertise.
  • Develop and resource projects effectively while providing training and mentorship for a multi-disciplined and growing team.
  • Work closely with stakeholders on contract issuance/negotiation/execution, as well as schedules, award recommendations, and risk assessments with a focus and emphasis on efficient processes and practical timely resolutions of issues and concerns.
  • Provide guidance for contract disputes and develop plans to mitigate the impact of any issues.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external clients and work toward identification of project opportunities, development of pursuit and capture plans, strategy development, and pre-positioning.
  • Identify and develop statewide field inspection resources that support the strategic growth and development of the construction management team.
  • Support the Project Delivery Program Management service line as the lead Construction Management resource.
  • Responsible for the overall performance and profitability on assigned projects either directly or indirectly through a subordinate manager.
  • Provide supervision, coordination, and follow-through for project control and client confidence and satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance and oversight for the training and development of subordinate staff.
  • Assign tasks, oversee distribution of workload, and supervise work performed on assigned projects.
  • Regularly review workload projections and resources to identify appropriate adjustments required to fulfill commitments.
  • Consistently review project progression and performance to ensure alignment with schedule, budget, and defined quality standards. Monitor and review billing for jobs in progress for completion on a timely basis.
  • Increase market visibility by leading and assisting the Client Service Managers with participation in regional conferences and committees, community and civic associations, and other activities led by professional organizations that support this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
  • Minimum of 15 years of professional experience with at least 10 years within construction management
  • Actively possess one or more of the following credentials: PE, CCM, or PMP
  • Experience with procurement of collaborative project delivery methods (Construction Manager at Risk, Progressive Design Build, Design-Build, etc.)
  • Experience with construction of water and/or wastewater facilities (treatment plants, pumps stations, etc.) and/or large diameter water transmission lines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and lead a team
  • Ability to work 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday, with overtime as needed
  • Ability to travel for project work and business development on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Texas
  • 5+ years of experience in a contractor role delivering infrastructure projects
