Job Description:

Overview:

This role supports the planning, design, and development of roadway and highway projects under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer (P.E.). Responsibilities include preparing design documentation, performing technical analysis, and collaborating with internal and external teams to help ensure transportation infrastructure is delivered in alignment with project goals and applicable standards.


Responsibilities:

• Support the development and design of roadway and highway projects, including preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates.

• Consult with project managers to review detailed design plans and ensure alignment with scope, standards, and constructability requirements.

• Develop and analyze design alternatives by evaluating key parameters such as typical sections, horizontal and vertical alignments, right-of-way needs, and cost implications.

Identify and assess principal design features and major alternatives that fulfill the project’s purpose and goals.

• Provide technical recommendations, assess cost-effective constructability, and evaluate overall project feasibility.

• Produce final design deliverables in accordance with AASHTO and FHWA guidelines.

• Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and clients to maintain quality and efficiency throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program

• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in roadway design and PS&E (Plans, Specifications, and Estimates)

• Strong understanding of engineering principles, design standards, and technical procedures

• Proficiency in MicroStation or similar design software

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

• Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines

• Reliability and dependability

• Ability to work Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm with overtime as needed
