At Regions, the Release Train Engineer manages and optimizes the flow of value through the Agile Release Train. An Engineer at this level leads Agile Release Trains (ART) resolves and escalates impediments, manages risk, assures value delivery, and drives program level continuous improvement.
Primary Responsibilities
- Oversees medium-sized or two small to medium release trains with complex scope and inter-dependencies
- Facilitates the coordinated preparation of release planning for the release train, including communication and coordination with stakeholders and customers during feature definition and delivery
- Leverages agile delivery metrics and regular Agile ceremonies to identify and drive continuous improvement, to maximize organizational performance and execution against the backlog
- Resolves/reports issues and manages dependencies and risks across the ART and between ART’s
- Coordinates major feature releases and ongoing delivery of value to customers where multiple teams, release trains, or solution groups are involved in development
- Leverages agile delivery metrics and regular Agile ceremonies to identify and drive continuous improvement, to maximize organizational performance and execution against the backlog
- Coaches leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
- Manages changes to the quarterly plan and the impacts of those changes
- Monitors overall coordination, execution and delivery of value through the program while ensuring alignment with company strategy, commitments and goals
- Facilitates communications, opening the flow of information, and sharing important progress updates to ensure all teams involved in the ART are focused on successful delivery
- Creates retrospective improvement roadmaps by analyzing all activities and actions that have previously been performed and finding ways to improve each process
- Understands and operates within the Agile Release Train budget
- Facilitates periodic sync meetings across trains
- Track features and capabilities throughout development
- Facilitates relationships between their teams and other departments
- Collaborates with the Program Management Office (PMO) to maintain solid program execution and operational excellence
- Communicates and collaborates with product and solution management, product owners and other stakeholders to guarantee the alignment of strategy and execution
This position is exempt form timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field and six (6) years of experience as a Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Project/Program Manager\
- Or High School Diploma or GED and ten (10) years of experience as a Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Project/Program Manager
Certifications/Licensures
- Scaled Agile such as Agile Practitioner, SAFE certified Release Train Engineer
Preferences
- Experience leveraging and interpreting agile metrics is preferred
- Prior management experience
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate large planning and solutioning sessions
- Excellent analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach
- Must be able to provide dynamic leadership to teams through both direct management and through influential leadership
- Must be able to effectively prioritize and assign work to meet deadlines
- Must be able to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical users at all levels of the organization
- Must demonstrate excellent leadership skills to manage various stakeholders effectively at the train and Solution level
- Understanding of Agile at scale philosophies & methodologies
- Understanding of which metrics are beneficial and should be tracked, how these metrics should be interpreted and how the project course can be corrected even if the findings are showing risks
- Understanding of the program's budget and how budgeting works within a SAFe environment
This position is intended to be onsite, now or in the near future. Associates will have regular work hours, including full days in the office three or more days a week. The manager will set the work schedule for this position, including in-office expectations. Regions will not provide relocation assistance for this position, and relocation would be at your expense. The location available for this role is Birmingham, AL.

Compensation Details
Pay ranges are job specific and are provided as a point-of-market reference for compensation decisions. Other factors which directly impact pay for individual associates include: experience, skills, knowledge, contribution, job location and, most importantly, performance in the job role. As these factors vary by individuals, pay will also vary among individual associates within the same job.
The target information listed below is based on the Metropolitan Statistical Area Market Range for where the position is located and level of the position.
