The UT Health San Antonio/Mays Cancer Center Flow Cytometry Shared Resource (FCSR) is seeking a highly motivated, responsible and organized individual to join our fast-paced core to support the cutting-edge research at UT Health SA. This is a full-time position. The Research Core Facility Technologist-Sr will be facilitating other technologists in maintaining the flow cytometry instrumentation, applications and training users. The qualified candidate will be required to perform daily Q/C and routine testing on all the cell analyzers and sorters. The candidate must be proficient in cell analysis, cell sorting and data analysis. Will also assist with record keeping and help order and maintain an inventory of supplies.

The Research Core Facility Technologist-Sr will demonstrate general lab skills in a research environment, excellent collaborative and interpersonal skills required to assist a large research community. This position reports directly to the Flow Cytometry Core Facility Director.


Benefits Overview

Vision - Fully insured Vision Care benefits are offered by Superior Vision Services. Two vision plan options that offer either standard or enhanced vision benefits.

Disability - Employees can enroll in the Disability Insurance which provides income if a non-work related illness or injury prevents you from working.

FSAs - Employees can enroll in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to set aside money from earnings before taxes for qualifying dependent day care expenses or out-of-pocket health care expenses.

Retirement - Employees are eligible for either the Teacher Retirement System (TRS) or the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP). TRS is a defined benefit retirement plan which UT Health matches employee contributions. ORP is for eligible faculty staff employees. Voluntary retirement programs are also available to invest before- or after-tax dollars with the choice of five quality retirement plan providers.

Time Off - A generous leave program offers multiple paid leave options:
  • Front-loaded Paid Time Off: 128 to 208 hours (16 to 26 days) of Paid Time Off based on years of service, given at the start of each fiscal year. PTO may be prorated in year one based on date of hire.
  • Extended Illness Bank: 8 hours (1 day) accrued per month which can be used for illness or injury after one day of Paid Time Off is taken.
  • Paid Family Leave: Up to 240 hours (6 weeks) to care for a spouse, child, or parent after 6 months of consecutive employment.
  • Holidays: 12 set paid holidays each year.

  • Research laboratory experience as well as knowledge of fundamental techniques and practices related to scientific field of study.

EDUCATION:
  • Master's degree with major coursework in the field of assignment is required. Or an additional 2 years of related experience may be considered in lieu of a Master's degree.
EXPERIENCE:
  • Three (3) years of laboratory experience in core activities; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

  • Assists individual users with cell analysis and cell sorting; provides efficient and timely consultation in the utilization of the facility.
  • Performs daily calibration, operation, and maintenance of all the core equipment.
  • Assists with daily core facility operations; maintains data backup and core facility computers.
  • Provides training and technical assistance in instrument operation and data analysis using flow cytometry analytical software.
  • Assists in monitoring the core facility and maintains laboratory quality control records, supply inventories, and instrument usage logs.
  • Assists with bookkeeping, billing and data preparation for grant applications.
  • Keeps up with the advances in the flow cytometry field and organizes educational seminars for the users.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
