The Brain Health Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct, high-quality nursing care to neurological patients with complex needs across the adult and geriatric spectrum in an outpatient setting at the Brain Health Center. Delivers IV therapies, including biotherapies, immunotherapies, hydration, and associated medications, as well as hazardous drugs. Develops and implements individualized patient care plans using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Ensures enhanced patient outcomes through effective communication, collaboration, mentorship, and delegation, while exercising independent judgment. May lead or mentor lower-level team members. Assesses the unit's needs related to practice and improvement opportunities.
- Demonstrates the skills and competencies required to complete duties safely and perform the assigned job, determined through ongoing skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Able to detect signs of emergency and higher-level care needs. Participates as an integral part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing the highest quality of care to the patient.
- Competent in the administration of biotherapies, immunotherapies, hydration, associated medications, and hazardous drugs.
- Communicates clearly and professionally with neurological complex patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers, applying customer service principles and positive language to enhance interactions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
- Analyze information and using logic to coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.
- Meets all training and competency requirements. Required certifications must remain current and valid.
- Demonstrates advanced skills in the delivery of physical examinations of patients, performing complex medical testing and providing interpretations of results, consulting with physicians and implementing treatment plan; administers medications and injections as needed.
- Ensures the clinic flow runs smoothly and provides supervision of the assigned Medical Assistant; works closely with assigned scheduler to ensure referrals, follow up appointments, diagnostic tests, etc. are scheduled accordingly.
- Triages patient calls and works closely with call center team members.
- Refers patients as needed to appropriate specialist, consults and collaborates with other members of the health care team, provides daily wound care as needed, schedules follow up appointments, weekly check appointments, and procedure appointments.
- Assists and arranges for hospital admissions as needed.
- Follows-up on diagnostic tests, labs and ensures they are reported to the medical provider.
- Educates patients and family members on the therapy process.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
