The department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Services is seeking a Research Area Specialist-Associate to perform assigned and delegated tasks in support of research projects. Responsibilities will include consenting participants, conducting clinical interviews with youth and families under research protocols, collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data for clinical and diagnostic research.

This is a grant funded position sponsored by the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium (TCMHCC). TCMHCC was created by the 86th Texas Legislature to leverage the expertise and capacity of the health-related institutions of higher education to address urgent mental health challenges and improve the mental health care system in this state in relation to children and adolescents.


1. Ability to organize and coordinate work within schedule constraints and handle emergent requirements in a timely manner.

2. Ability to monitor important and complex projects concurrently.

4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with research participants and their families.

5. Computer proficiency. Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

6. Ability to work independently with strong attention to accuracy and detail.

7. Effectively communicates verbally and in writing, to include writing and preparing memorandums, letters, and other official correspondence.

Preferred:

• Experience working with youth and/or family systems.

• Bilingual in spoken English and Spanish desirable.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree in an educational/social science is required.


  1. Performs assigned and delegated tasks in support of research projects, including clerical and technical duties.
  2. Worked closely with a team consisting of licensed professional counselors and medical doctors to identify, assess eligible participants.
  3. Conducts structured clinical diagnostic interview with youth and caregivers.
  4. Assists in conducting research projects consenting, collecting, evaluating, and interpreting data.
  5. Supports other programs projects as needed.
  6. Performs all other duties as assigned.
