As a pharmacy technician III, in a hospital setting, provides specialized services in accordance with department procedures, which may be related to the procurement, preparation, distribution, and storage of drugs, as well as the provision of clinical pharmacy services according to the Pharmacy's role in ensuring safe medication use. Competent in all tasks associated with Pharmacy Technician Level I and II. Must achieve and maintain certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. Coordinates technician staff and activities and/or is responsible for specific advanced duties. Serve as a resource to both pharmacy and nursing staff for issues and questions. Duties are performed under the direct supervision of a pharmacist and according to professional standards and practices.
  • Considerable knowledge of drug names, medical terminology, and pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to operate and care for automated dispensing devices and equipment
  • Requires critical thinking skills with the ability to implement solutions
  • Strong organizational skills, including staying focused on assigned tasks and using time and resources effectively and efficiently to achieve job expectations.
  • Excellent customer service skills including prioritizing the needs of patients and multidisciplinary team members while displaying empathy in all interactions to ensure complete satisfaction
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in situations involving uncertainty and rapid change
  • A solid customer service acumen to effectively work with both internal and external customers and respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Proficient computer skills.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program OR Completion/Graduate of a formal Pharmacy Technician Curriculum through an accredited body – may have experience meeting state requirements and at least 2 years’ of experience as an admixture technician

Licensure/Certification:

  • Registered with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy in good standing.
  • Certification from the pharmacy technician certification board is required within 12 months of hire.
  • Certified pharmacy technician certification in good standing
  • Certified in the process of sterile compounding (IV certification)
