Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases

The Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA) invites applications for a tenuretrack, assistant professor faculty position in Neurology. We seek boardcertified neurologists with subspecialty training or clinical focus in Behavioral, Geriatric, Dementia, Vascular, Movement Disorders, and/or Sleep Neurology. We are looking for neurologists committed to delivering creative, comprehensive, and compassionate care for patients with memory and cognitive disorders. Faculty work within a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary environment that includes neurologists, neuropsychologists, nurses, social workers, geriatricians, geriatric psychiatrists, therapists, counselors, and care managers. Successful candidates will have opportunities for rapid advancement along clinicianscientist, clinicianeducator, or leadership tracks.

The Biggs Institute is a flagship, freestanding institute within UTHSA dedicated to outstanding clinical care and transformative research focused on the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions. Areas of strength include vascular contributions to cognitive impairment and dementia, Parkinson’s and Lewy body dementias, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, frontotemporal dementia, Down syndrome–associated dementia, progressive supranuclear palsy, and brain health across the lifespan.

The Institute houses the NIAdesignated South Texas Alzheimers Disease Research Center (ADRC), directed by Dr. Sudha Seshadri, and also serves as a Center of Excellence for Dementia with Lewy Bodies and Parkinson’s disease. Faculty participate in major national and international studies, including ADNI, ATRI, ADCS, DIAGNOSECTE, MarkVCID, DIVERSECTE, CLARiTI, and DISCOVERY. Robust research infrastructure includes cores in population neuroscience, genetics, multiomics, imaging, sensorimotor assessment, and integrated brain and biobanking resources. Over the past eight years, Biggs Institute faculty have published more than 800 peerreviewed papers and secured over $150 million in grant funding.

Additional opportunities exist for immersive, collaborative research through global consortia such as the Framingham Heart Study, CHARGE, International Genomics of Alzheimer’s Project, Alzheimer’s Disease Sequencing Project, International Stroke Genetics Consortium, and other major initiatives in which Biggs Institute faculty hold leadership roles.

Candidate must have training or experience in Epidemiology, anti-amyloid infusions, and be well published (20+ publications ideally). Clinical responsibilities will include 20–70% effort in the Center for Brain Health Clinic, with additional outpatient or inpatient duties tailored to the candidate’s interests, including inpatient neurology service or infusion programs. Faculty receive protected time, strong institutional support, and personalized mentoring to advance research, teaching, or administrative goals.

Appointments are based at the Biggs Institute with an academic appointment in the Department of Neurology. Faculty report to Dr. Sudha Seshadri and Dr. Carlayne Jackson, Chair of Neurology.
