The Department of Anesthesiology, Joe R. & Theresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio is seeking outstanding critical care physicians for a faculty position servicing University Hospital.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing, high-acuity critical care service caring for a complex population of cardiothoracic surgery, abdominal transplant, lung transplant, cardiology, and ECMO patients. The service has expanded significantly in recent years and additional growth is expected as University Hospital continues to broaden its regional role and establish an advanced heart failure program.
The candidate will join a multidisciplinary group of critical care physicians with backgrounds in anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and internal medicine. The physician group works closely with an outstanding team of advanced practice providers. The ICU team values clinical excellence, professionalism, collegiality, humility, and a strong commitment to team-based care.
The ECMO program is a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary program involving critical care, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology. Faculty members participate actively in the care of ECMO patients, including cannulation, ECPR, and ongoing ICU management. The intensivist team provides ECMO transport using ground, rotor-wing, and fixed-wing platforms.
Experience with one or more of our core patient populations is highly desirable. Joint appointments with other specialties, including cardiology and cardiac anesthesia, will be considered. Applicants with combined training in multiple specialties or subspecialties are encouraged to apply. Highly qualified recent fellowship graduates with strong clinical skills, sound judgment, humility, adaptability, and a commitment to team-based care are also welcome.
The position includes clinical care, teaching, and academic responsibilities. Faculty members participate in the education of residents, fellows, medical students, and advanced practice providers through bedside teaching, didactic instruction, simulation, and other educational activities.
Position Expectations:
· Provide critical care for patients at University Hospital, Audie L. Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital, and other clinical venues as developed.
· Participate in call coverage consistent with departmental and service expectations.
· Supervise and direct patient care provided by advanced practice providers, residents, fellows, and medical students.
· Participate in the multidisciplinary care of complex cardiothoracic, transplant, advanced cardiovascular, and ECMO patients.
· Contribute to resident, fellow, medical student, and advanced practice provider education through bedside teaching, lectures, simulation, and/or workshops.
· Participate in administrative duties, quality improvement, committee service, and other academic activities as assigned.
· Pursue scholarly activity and professional development appropriate to an academic faculty position.
Requirements:
MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree.
Board certification or board eligibility in critical care medicine through an approved primary specialty board, including anesthesiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, or surgery.
Active critical care practice within the past 12 months.
Texas medical license or eligibility to obtain one.
Valid DEA registration or eligibility to obtain one.
