Open Rank Faculty – Department of Health, Behavior, and Society

The Kate Marmion School of Public Health (“the School”) was founded in 2022 as a collaboration between The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) and The University of Texas at San Antonio, both designated as Hispanic-Serving Institutions by the U.S. Department of Education. Effective September 1, 2025, the two universities merged into a single institution, now operating as The University of Texas at San Antonio. The School provides graduate-level academic instruction in public health and conducts research and community engagement activities to promote and maintain community health.

The Department of Health, Behavior, and Society seeks faculty candidates with demonstrable academic skills for faculty positions. We seek innovative and collaborative scholars with an emerging or established research program that complements and expands departmental strengths in the social drivers of health, community-engaged research, dissemination and implementation science, and digital health interventions. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to working with underserved populations and to designing, implementing, and evaluating approaches to prevent disease, improve well-being, and promote a healthy society for all. Research focus areas of interest include, but are not limited to, social and behavioral sciences, mental health, substance use, diabetes and metabolic disorders, nutrition, cancer, sexual health, infectious diseases, maternal and child health, aging, mHealth, and health communication.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated research portfolios, scholarly publications, and experience with graduate-level instruction in areas such as community-based participatory research, health behavior, social and behavioral research methods, implementation science, translational science, and social drivers of health. Faculty will be expected to conduct innovative research, contribute meaningfully to curriculum development, teach graduate courses, and actively engage in shaping the School through internal and external service activities.

Qualifications
• A doctorate in public health or a related field.
• Prior experience teaching at the graduate level.
• Demonstrated ability to independently conduct both practical and academic research.
• Expertise or experience related to historically under-resourced populations is desirable but not required.
