The Department of Anesthesiology, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio seeks to hire a faculty physician to join the Acute Pain Service and Regional Anesthesia division. This position supports the Department's mission of providing high-quality perioperative analgesia, regional anesthesia, and multimodal pain management services at University Hospital (UH), an Adult and Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center serving South Texas and San Antonio. The faculty physician will also provide Anesthesia care for patients of University Health System (UHS), the UT Multispecialty and Research Hospital (MSRH), UT Kyle Seale Parkway Ambulatory Surgery Center (KSP), UT Pain Clinic, Audie L. Murphy Veterans Administration Hospital, and other clinical venues as developed.

Core Duties:
• Participate in call coverage in keeping with the standard for the Department.
• Share staffing duties of the Acute Pain Service in rotation, to include placement of single-shot and continuous nerve blocks or neuraxial techniques, daily management of patient census, and consultation services for patients with post-surgical, post-traumatic, or other acute pain.
• Supervision of the resident block team and consult service.
• Clinically supervise resident physician patient care, performing bedside teaching and feedback.
• Oversee and direct patient care provided by Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) when applicable.
• Provide mentorship to residents.
• Participate in didactic opportunities such as journal clubs, lectures, simulation training, and/or workshops.
• Participate in administrative duties and committee service opportunities.
• Pursue scholarly activity sufficient to stay abreast of new technology and medical advances in anesthesiology.

Qualifications:

• Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
• Board certification or board eligibility in Anesthesiology.
• Fellowship training or experience in Acute Pain, Regional Anesthesia, or Pain Medicine preferred.
• 48 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training or 12 months of Preliminary Residency Training and 36 months of Anesthesiology Residency Training
• Texas Medical License or eligibility to obtain Texas Medical License
• Valid DEA Registration Number (Controlled Substance Registration Certificate)
• Unrestricted clinical privileges.
