Advanced Practice Provider- Pediatric Hema/Onc

Nurse Practitioner (PNP or FNP) or Physician Assistant | Outpatient/Infusion Center

The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology of the Department of Pediatrics in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio, in collaboration with University Health, is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our growing pediatric oncology faculty practice. Faculty status will be conferred upon hiring.

This position will provide predominantly outpatient clinical care, with a primary focus on the Pediatric Oncology Infusion Center, caring for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer. The APP will work collaboratively with pediatric hematology/oncology physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other members of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive, compassionate, and family-centered care. There may also be occasional inpatient care on our Pediatric Hema/Onc inpatient service.

Responsibilities

· Provide evaluation and management of pediatric oncology patients in the outpatient clinic and infusion center.

· Assess patients prior to chemotherapy, immunotherapy, transfusions, and other scheduled therapies.

· Review laboratory results and treatment parameters and determine readiness for therapy in collaboration with the supervising/attending physician.

· Evaluate and manage acute infusion reactions and other complications of cancer-directed therapy.

· Provide patient and family education regarding treatment, medications, expected toxicities, and indications for contacting the oncology team.

· Coordinate care across outpatient, inpatient, emergency, and subspecialty settings.

· Perform detailed histories and physical examinations for pediatric and AYA hematology/oncology patients upon admission and throughout hospitalization if needed to help on inpatient service.

· Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized plans of care in collaboration with supervising physicians and the multidisciplinary team

· Participate in multidisciplinary care, quality improvement, patient-safety initiatives, and development of clinical pathways.

· Contribute to the educational mission of the Department of Pediatrics through teaching and mentoring of students, residents, fellows, nursing staff, and APP trainees.

Qualifications

NP: Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited NP program, current Texas APRN/NP licensure, and national board certification.

PA: Master's degree from an accredited PA program, current Texas PA licensure, and NCCPA certification.

Prior experience in pediatric oncology, pediatric hematology/oncology, or an outpatient oncology/infusion setting is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, communication skills, teamwork, and a commitment to family-centered pediatric cancer care.
