Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery

The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Long School of Medicine at UT Health San Antonio seeks a full-time Lung Transplant and General Thoracic Surgeon Faculty with an outstanding record of clinical excellence and interest in graduate medical education.

Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the candidate must have training and experience in lung transplantation; postgraduate experience is preferred. Lung transplantation responsibilities will include patient evaluation, implantation and perioperative care. The practice’s thoracic surgery volume is growing quickly, and there is opportunity to practice all facets of general thoracic surgery, or to specialize per the candidate’s interest. Expertise in performing minimally invasive procedures is required and with a preference in robotic surgery. The candidate’s full-time effort will be 50/50 between Lung transplantation and General Thoracic surgery and a 1:3 call schedule. The department has an integrated thoracic surgery residency program (I-6), and interest in graduate medical education is a must. This position is well supported by nurse coordinators and advanced practice providers. There is great potential to develop a research program within the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery or focus on healthcare leadership, if desired.

The ideal candidate must be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and be eligible for a Texas Medical License. The ability to foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence in patient care across the Health Science Center is important. UT Health San Antonio is located in the Northwest region of San Antonio and sits as a gateway to the picturesque Texas Hill Country. San Antonio is a vibrant, dynamic, and multicultural city with much to offer, including an attractive cost-of-living.
