Accountant II – Credit Union Operations

As an Accountant II, you’ll play a vital role in safeguarding the financial integrity of the credit union while supporting strategic decision-making at the executive and Board level. This position goes beyond routine accounting—you’ll own complex reconciliations, solve high-impact general ledger issues, and help ensure the accurate flow of multimillion-dollar transactions in a fast-paced financial institution environment.

Key Responsibilities

Drive the accuracy and reliability of the credit union’s financial records by preparing, reviewing, and posting journal entries in accordance with GAAP.

Produce timely and precise financial statements for executive leadership and Board of Directors review, supporting confident, data-driven decisions.

Perform detailed reconciliations across multiple general ledger accounts, identifying, researching, and resolving complex outages efficiently.

Lead variance analysis efforts by investigating fluctuations, documenting root causes, and providing clear, actionable explanations.

Maintain and enhance complex Excel workbooks that support reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.

Serve as a trusted accounting resource by communicating professionally with internal teams and external vendors to resolve accounting questions and issues.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline.

3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a financial institution or highly regulated environment.

Strong command of GAAP with a proven ability to apply standards accurately in day-to-day accounting and financial reporting.

Demonstrated success managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines—especially during month-end close—without sacrificing accuracy.

Experience supporting high-dollar transactions, including cash ordering, ATM operations, and multimillion-dollar wire activity.

Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with a passion for investigating and resolving complex general ledger discrepancies.

High level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to leverage accounting systems and reporting tools efficiently.

Solid understanding of credit union or financial institution operations and member-driven transactions.

Work Environment

Hybrid schedule: Two remote days per week; three days in-office in San Antonio, TX.

Month-end close requires additional in-office presence, typically during the first five business days of each month.
