We are currently looking for a motivated Research Assistant to join the research group of Dr. Vaida Glatt at the Department of Orthopaedics of the University of Texas Health and Science Center in San Antonio. The position is available immediately.

• Provide assistance and technical support on basic research studies
• Prepare reagents, media, and solutions as needed
• Mammalian cell culture: maintenance, expansion, freezing of cells
• RNA extraction and qPCR
• Histology: sectioning of paraffin-embedded tissue samples, classical staining, immunohistology-chemistry
• Imaging: Micro-computed Tomography and radiology sample scanning and analysis
• Microscopy: bright-field microscopy, fluorescence microscopy
• Ordering consumables, reagents, and all other lab supplies; maintaining equipment and updating lab databases
• Perform literature searches and library investigations as they relate to ongoing research and/or as assigned
• All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, Biochemistry, Life Science or a related scientific field required.

Recent graduates with relevant course or project work will be considered.

• Experience using molecular, cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Knowledge of computer software: Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop would be a plus
• Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
• Careful attention to detail
