SUMMARY:

The Director of Clinical Education for Respiratory Care is responsible to the Respiratory Care Program Director and has responsibilities which include teaching, coordinating and evaluating the clinical instruction (including visits to clinical sites), assisting with the evaluation of the educational program, advising students, and exercising responsibilities consistent with the program and the mission of the School of Health Professions.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan, organize, direct, supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical education component of the curriculum.

Provide a liaison between the college program staff and the clinical affiliates to ensure the relevance of the students' learning experiences and effectiveness of their evaluations.

Over sees and evaluates part-time clinical instructors.

Evaluates the contribution and effectiveness of the program's clinical affiliates regarding the program, student needs, and CoARC’ s accreditation essentials. Develop appropriate action plans to continue to meet CoARC’ s accreditation essentials as well as correct identified areas of concern.

Maintain active communication and collaboration with all personnel necessary to maintain optimum functioning of the clinical affiliates.

Provide timely feedback to the Program Director, students, affiliates, clinical instructors, and clinical faculty to enhance the didactic, laboratory, and clinical education.

Teaches courses within the Respiratory Care Program.

Prepares the students for their clinical education and supports the clinical instructors in their role in clinical education.

Fulfill other relevant duties as assigned by the Program Director.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Must hold a valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from the National Board for Respiratory Care and hold professional licensure as an RRT in Texas, or professional licensure (or a credential comparable to licensure).
  • A master’s degree in respiratory care or in a related field is required. Earned degrees must be from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education.
  • A minimum of four years of experience as an RRT, of which at least two years must include experience in clinical respiratory care is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor is required.
  • Applications for appointments to all ranks (assistant, associate, or full professor) and tracks (tenure-track, tenured or non-tenure track) will be reviewed and considered; the level and type of faculty appointment will be based on the candidate’s professional and academic experiences.
