Senior Nuclear Medicine Technologist (Multispecialty and Research Hospital)

Job Description

The Nuclear Medicine Tech senior performs technical nuclear medicine examinations and will independently perform routine, complex, and specialized nuclear medicine procedures under the limited supervision of the Radiology Manager and/or Supervisor and Radiologist/Physician. The nuclear medicine technologist Senior will be responsible for the preparation and administration of radioactive drugs. Nuclear medicine technologists operate imaging equipment and ensure the safety of all medical staff and patients from unnecessary radiation exposure.

Responsibilities

1. Assists with leading, mentoring, and training of lower level staff members .

2. Provide basic maintenance and repairs, participate in QA/QC and resolve issues related to image processing and the image archiving system (PACS).

3. Attending meetings and providing feedback for radiation safety, development and implementation of process improvement(s), policies.

4. Provides highly skilled technical performance and supervision of all procedures in Nuclear Medicine.

5. Provide basic maintenance and repairs, participate in QA/QC and resolve issues related to image processing and the image archiving system (PACS).

6. Review daily and future ordering of radiopharmaceuticals.

7. Performs radiopharmaceutical preparations and quality assurance assays.

8. Informs the patient and family members about the procedure and answers questions.

9. Performs quality control procedures. Calibrates, operates and evaluates instruments' performance.

10. Monitors personnel, work areas and patient rooms to ensure that the levels of radioactive materials are in accordance with regulations.

11. Maintaining and examining medical machines and imaging equipment.

Qualifications

1. Skilled at preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals orally or by injection or inhalation.

2. Must be able to use a wide variety of nuclear medicine equipment and computers.

3. Ability to explain the imaging procedure to patients, answer questions, and ensure patient comfort while placing them in the appropriate position for scanning.

4. Knowledge and Operating SPECT imaging equipment. 5. Knowledge of processing images on the brain, thyroid, bone, heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver on the computer.

6. Proven skill monitoring patients for unusual reactions to radioactive drugs.

7. Ability to keep detailed records of the amount and type of radiopharmaceutical used and of the procedure

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology required

CERTIFICATION:

  • ARRT or CNMT required
  • Registered Radiology Tech required
  • BLS required

Required Skills

Five (5) yeras of experience in radiology as a nuclear medicine technologist.
