Summary:

As OKIN's Tutor Specialist, you will provide remote support to K-12 students on advanced subject matters such as (Maths, Science, Physics, History, and English). You will be the first point of contact for students who contact the helpline via phone, chat, and video.

Responsibilities:

• Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences

• Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks

• Use active listening strategies to allow students to determine content and pace of tutoring

• Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary tutoring method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress

• Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skills and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills

• Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice

Duties include:

• Recognize primary role to help students become more confident, more successful, self-directed learners

• Be direct and kind with students at the same time

• Provide direct assistance in the use of equipment, learning objects, and materials

• needed for student success

• Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed

Qualifications:

• Associates or bachelor’s degree in the subject area or closely related field. Received an A or B in the subjects which they will tutor, has completed or in pursuit of a two- or four-year degree

• Ability to effectively manage time and schedules

• Establish a friendly, encouraging, and welcoming virtual environment for students

• Experience working with children in a virtual setting

• Ability to teach students of all ages at varying levels of understanding and proficiency

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written

• Knowledge of tutorial/learning materials and instructional aids

• Knowledge of peer counseling/tutoring processes and methods

• Basic data entry/word processing skills

• Skill in preparing instructional aids and plans
