The Manager, Property Tax is responsible for all tax functions related to the Company’s property tax issues, ensuring compliance while minimizing the legal property tax liability to the greatest extent possible.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manages all aspects of property tax audits and related appeals and/or protests for all taxing authorities in the Company’s reporting jurisdictions.
  • Analyzes the property tax budget and related accruals monthly and communicates results with upper management and field personnel accordingly.
  • Ensures all personal property, real estate, and possessory taxes are properly budgeted, accrued, reported, and defended for all appropriate taxing authorities.
  • Is responsible for identifying property tax issues and/or opportunities and coordinating with other departments to ensure that current and future properties comply with property tax laws.
  • Identifies and properly secures available business tax incentives.
  • Researches personal property taxing methodologies, as appropriate.
  • Ensures all proper compliance is prepared and that all taxes are timely reported for each governmental authority.
  • Is responsible for the overall documentation process to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley ("SOX") requirements, as applicable.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Skilled in prioritizing and managing multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Proficient in negotiating property tax values.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong computer experience including MS Office and especially Excel.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle complex tasks.
  • Proficient in using PTMS property tax software and data management systems.
  • Ability to adapt to changing regulations and industry standards.
  • Hands-on mentality and strong work ethic.
  • Competent in preparing detailed reports and documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Extensive practical knowledge and experience in property tax, with a focus on the oil and gas sector
  • Technical knowledge of the industry, including all phases of natural gas gathering, processing, and NGL accounting

Certifications (preferred but not required):

  • CMI (IPT Certified Member of the Institute)
  • IAAO (International Association of Assessing Officers)
  • ASA (American Society of Appraisers)

Physical Demands and Hazards for Office Employees:

This position requires prolonged periods of sitting, frequent computer use, occasional lifting of office supplies, and may involve travel.
